Thanks Bala,
It seems the port is OK, because I can use a pen drive successfully. For the time being I took the memory card to another system and got the picures downloaded with a different device. But if I have to download a movie later, I can't do it in the present circumstances. I'm planning to call up Panasonic and see if they can help me out with this. Would Let you know what was it.....Thanks for offering me help.

you said your camera has a memory card, right?
i'm assuming that you're trying to download some stills you've capured on your memory card, and not the video.
this wouldnt normally even require a driver, as xp recognizes almost all usb compatible devices in the market, with out the need for you to even install a driver.
so, if you connect your camera and turn it on, (with the card in it, that is) it should have automatically picked up the camera even without the camera application.
i suggested loading the tape, because some cameras dont turn on properly without the tape in them.

now coming to troubleshooting your problem, i suggest you connect some other usb device and see if your usb drive is in good shape. preferably, a thumbdrive or something like that.

you can also see the status of your port in control panel > device manager .
i strongly suspect that your usb port is either not connected in the mother board, or is not enabled.

Thanks esvee.
But, yes, that is exacty what I did.
The driver was installed before connecting the camera. Do you think I should still try uninstalling and installing again?

Hi,

Uninstall the driver first.

Then install the driver ** without ** connecting the camera. After installation is complete connect the usb cable to the camera. It should detect the camera now by itself. ( or during the installation it will ask to connect the camera.)

Hope this helps.I have installed quite a few cameras using this procedure.

Take care.Have great days
