The Grass is Singingby Doris Lessing

I finished reading a very powerful novel. The Grass is Singing, the first novel, published in 1950, by Nobel Laurete, Doris Lessing. The book is said to be an immediate success and must have been quite popular. I came across it only now.

The Grass is Singing
I read a library copy. The book is small and doesn’t threaten you with size. However it is power-packed with emotions, psychological analysis and bleak racial truths.

Horsley Hills. Andhrapradesh. ~150 km from Bangalore. 1265 m above sea level. Cool and pleasant.

We went to Horsley Hills again on a weekend. So I thought I should be adding more to this entry.

This time, we were three families – 3 adults and 5 children. So, age group range: 3 months to 34 yrs.

And Horsley Hills? Moist. Flowery. More beautiful.

I have got back into my reading habit….at last….
I have also configured my Shelfari book shelf on this blog. I wanted to keep my reading list and not he book shelf, so that my current list of books come up here. But WordPress doesnt take the code for reading list!

I have been reading Indian literature in translation. Finished Satyajit Ray’s short fiction, Perumal Murugan’s Current Show and now has taken up P Sivakami’s The Grip of Change.

Shift to Bangalore

2007
04.11

So I’ve made a shift! Relocation as they call it.

Relocated to a different city, a different career, and hopefully a different life experience. But every relocation is very much rooted in your locations, if you can call them so. No, I’m not being Homi Bhabha. But locations are not always firm moorings, right?

Now a new hope, a new turn….let’s see what it turns out to be.

Bangalore as such doesnt look as receptive as Hyderabad was to me. Things take pretty long time. We’d applied for a telephone connection [running around atleast 4 offices located at various places] last week. Still we dont have a number. To imagine that in the single window system Hyderabad has, it took just a day to apply and another to get connected!

Oh, but I’m far from disappointed. I’m still looking forward……waiting to see what is waiting for me.
